It’s that time of year again – high school hockey has started up in Metro St. John’s.

As the 2014 – 2015 Metro High School Hockey league commences, let’s take a look back at least year’s tournaments.

2013-2014 Season Tournament Winners

Per usual, the Holy Heart Highlanders (pictured above, in black jerseys) and the Gonzaga Vikings lead the way last season.

The Highlanders captured first place in last year’s Oktoberfest as well as the Grand Falls-Windsor Donnini’s Invitational. The Vikings defeated the Highlanders in the (Metro) City Finals last May with a 3-1 series victory in the best-of-five series.

The Highlanders finished with a 1-2 record in the 2014 Big’s [Ultimate Sports Grill] Provincial High School Hockey Challenge, known as the Provincial AAAA tournament. The Vikings were crowned provincial champions of high school hockey as they defeated the Gander Concordes in the finals. Gonzaga also had a tremendous run at the 2014 Confederation Cup, but were defeated by the O’Donel Patriots in the championship game.

The Vikings also saw action in Detroit, Michigan as the team travelled to The Great Lake State and claimed the Motown Cup.
