ST. JOHN’S, NL – The Ottawa Senators and New York Islanders have kicked-off the 2014-2015 NHL pre-season with a matinee match at Mile One Centre in historic downtown St. John’s, Newfoundland.

NHL Stars in town

John Tavares, Kyle Okposo, and  Mikhail Grabovski will play in the Game 2 lineup (main event) for the Islanders whilst Erik Karlsson, Kyle Turris, and Craig Anderson are in for the Sens among others.

“I’ve heard so many great things [about St. John’s]. I’ve always really enjoyed the preseason and going to the smaller towns and smaller cities, especially across Canada. We played in Regina last year and Saskatoon the year before. I’ve been to Halifax a few times and I’ve been to P.E.I. but never Newfoundland. I’m really looking forward to going out there. I’ve heard tremendous things about the people and their passion for the game. I’m looking forward to visiting.”

– John Tavares to St. John’s IceCaps insider Chris Ballard

The Senators are also playing their second match in St. John’s – they played the Winnipeg Jets in the 2011 KRAFT Hockeyville Event.
